Economic development authority to post vacant executive director post
The Elbert County Economic Development Authority will post its vacant executive director position on two statewide websites after a vote of the authority on Thursday.
The postings of the jobs will be on websites belonging to the Georgia Economic Development Association (GEDA) and the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA).
Interim Executive Director Allen Nicas has served with the authority since former Executive Director Beth Eavenson left the position to take another position.
The development authority intends to leave the job posting on the GMA and GEDA websites for the next two weeks.
Nicas told the authority that he has submitted the “Carlisle” building on Calhoun Falls Highway after receiving questions about available buildings from a potential industrial prospect.
The building, located adjacent to the National Guard Armory, has 19-foot and 25-foot ceilings, which Nicas said isn’t as high as most companies need.
The economic development office experienced some flooding recently and Athens Technical College moved staff to another location on the Elberton campus.
A ruptured water main in the area leaked into the building and caused extensive damage to flooring and walls, according to Nicas.
“Athens Tech did a really nice job getting everything moved to another location on campus,” Nicas told the authority.
