New Georgia Chapter Friends Organization chartered at Richard B. Russell State Park

Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites last week announced the formation of a new Chapter Friends Organization to support Richard B. Russell State Park in Elbert County.

The chapter was officially approved and chartered by the Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites’ Board of Directors on Dec. 3.

The Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites made the announcement about the chapter through a press release that was issued Monday, Dec. 7.

Joe Ray of Elberton will serve as the first president of the chapter and he is looking forward enhancing, preserving and protecting this special state treasure.

“We are proud to welcome the 57th Friends chapter and are looking forward to working together,” said Richard B. Russell State Park Manager Clint Rouse. “From golfing, to fishing and camping, our park has much to offer and the volunteer support from Friends of Georgia State Parks will certainly help to enhance and protect the beauty of the park.”

“New chapters of Friends of Georgia State Parks help to create stronger bonds between state parks and the communities they serve,” said Andy Fleming, Executive Director of Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites.  “We are very pleased to have this latest chapter added to the organization and are excited about what it will mean for park guests and for Georgia’s state parks as a whole.”

With 57 chapters across the state, Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites is a growing group of dedicated people who demonstrate their support for Georgia’s natural and cultural resources through volunteer efforts.

Friends of Georgia State Parks is a non-profit corporation formed by Georgia citizens to support Georgia’s system of over 60 state parks and historic sites.
